Dating back to the late 1800s, Washington Park was originally part of South Denver (an area that was later annexed into Denver). Streetcar lines came to Wash Park in 1889, and in the 1920s, Gaylord Street became the neighborhood’s predominant commercial district. Gaylord Street is still thriving today, with restaurants, boutique shops, art galleries, and more.

In addition to Old South Gaylord Street, you can also find pockets of smaller commercial developments sprinkled throughout Washington Park, as well as in the nearby West Washington Park and Cory-Merrill neighborhoods.

In the Wash Park neighborhood – which is predominantly comprised of single family homes – there’s a mix of bungalows, Craftsman, Tudors, and contemporary homes.

In the 1970s, the Park Lane Condominiums were built on the northern edge of the park, and most of the condos available in Wash Park are in this complex that’s comprised of 400 units in three 20-story highrises.

Inside Wash Park, there are two lakes and a historic boathouse, ten tennis courts, two playgrounds, a lawn bowling green, beautiful formal flower gardens, and a public rec center.
